Elliot B.
A friend of mine got a Kinect with his new Xbox 360 S. The Kinect plugs into his console. He has borrowed me the Kinect, but the Kinect won't plug into our Xbox 360 Premium 20 GB. Any ideas? carmatic
somewhere along your friend's Kinect's cables there would have been some sort of adapter for the old xbox360's, you were probably trying to plug in the AUX connector into your USB port... if your friend bought a new xbox360 which comes with kinect, theres no reason for him to own one of those adapters! you'll need to buy an adapter yourself http://forums.xbox.com/34832144/ShowPost.aspx New Xbox 360 SIf you have the New Xbox 360 (Slim) it’s super easy, on the back of your console you will see a port called “Aux” that looks like a USB port but has a flattened out corner, just plug your sensor into that and you will be on your way! If you purchased Kinect separately from your Xbox 360 S, you will need to remove the Y-Cable power adaptor to connect the sensor to the AUX port. Original Xbox 360 If you have an Original Xbox 360, you will have one extra step. In your Kinect for Xbox 360 packaging you will find a power cord/USB adapter cable. With the Original Xbox 360, you simply plug the sensor into the adapter, the power adapter into a power socket and the USB portion of the adapter into the rear USB port on your console. Yeah, I know there are USB ports on the front… but using the rear USB port ensures you always have enough USB bandwidth for the sensor to work! Now remember, you will need to have that adapter plugged into a power outlet, so make sure you have one free. You might be thinking “Hey! Where do I put my WiFi Adapter then?’ Also in your box, you’ll find a handy USB extension cable—plug that cable into a front USB port or your 360 and then get the WiFi Adapter plugged in— This will allow you to plug the sensor into the back USB ports, and have your wireless adapter plugged into the front, also as the adapter is on an extension cable you can now adjust it’s position more easily! Knightwolf20024
it needs a something like this to make it work on the old 360's http://store.microsoft.com/microsoft/Kinect-Sensor-Power-Supply/product/9A4CFC08 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/968448-kinect-wont-plug-into-xbox-360-premium-20-gb/#findComment-593594994 Share on other sites
Elliot B.
There is no adapter with the Kinect, just the Kinect itself. Do you think it's because it was a bundle deal? EDIT: Thought so happylemon. Oh well. Matthew Jones Veteran Posted January 15, 2011 Veteran Share Posted January 15, 2011 If the Kinect didn't come with the adaptor cable, you can get one from the Microsoft Store for $35. 00000
If your friend bought the console/kinect bundle it came without the legacy adapter and you will have to buy one. Neo003
It didn't come with one. Not to worry :) Just read your 2nd post. Only other option is to borrow someone elses or buy the adapter from ebay or amazon. Crisp
Just to verifiy to some people. When you buy the new console with Kinect in the box, you DON'T get the USB adapter cable for older consoles which don't have the AUX port. It's only included when you buy Kinect on its own.
