Kyang
Absolute horrendous UI design. They are taking the term minimal a bit too far. But everything's there... Lamp0
Do Microsoft actually have people who design the aesthetics of the UI? I just don't understand why they think that a nice look. Athernar
Why does it matter what it looks like in this case? You're supposed to be looking at the webpage not the GUI, hence the approach they've taken. zhangm Supervisor Posted January 27, 2011 Supervisor Share Posted January 27, 2011 With aesthetics, you can't satisfy everyone. I'm personally glad that they pared pretty much everything down and only include interface objects that have a function: glass title bar to move the window, navigation and tabs, scrollbars, and buttons to toggle additional UI elements for special functions. Maybe people will realize also that the majority of URIs these days aren't relevant to most end users, except for the domain and subdomain. It makes sense to me to shorten the address bar. A few critiques though: It looks like they haven't added much new functionality to the about:Tabs page. They could have done a lot more with this. It looks like they haven't added any indicator that history can be navigated by click-holding, right-clicking, or click-dragging on the forward/back buttons. This is not discoverable to most people. The New Tab button doesn't advertise its function very much, and squaring it off makes it look even less apparent. Shortcut key combinations are still stupid. How do you open bookmarks? Ctrl+B? No. Alt+C. What the hell is that supposed to mean? Find functionality is still pretty spartan. AnotherITguy
Comon Microsoft polish that bad boy up and ship it already PS: Get your act together and ship a version of SILVERLIGHT X64 already. PSS: Lastly, can you please polish up the Download manager before RTM, it looks a little bit of an eyesore in my opinion. They'll probably talk about SL x64 at MiX in April, probably ship out a beta of SL5 even, that's also when everyone expects the IE9 final to ship as well, so we could get beta SL x64 then. George P Global Moderator Posted January 28, 2011 Author Global Moderator Share Posted January 28, 2011 Even this build is old though, there's screenshots of a newer RC build out so I think it's best that everyone wants. Screenshots of a more recent escrow build surfaced on Friday, version 9.00.8073.6018 (WIN7_IE9_Partner.110121-2300). Just wait for later today before you rush to install a leaked older build and then have to do yet another install later anyways. DesGaiZu
looks way too disjointed as a design, and why is the back button so silly looking it doesn't fit :/ Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/970922-new-ie9-rc-build-screenshots/page/2/#findComment-593640266 Share on other sites
George P Global Moderator Posted January 28, 2011 Author Global Moderator Share Posted January 28, 2011 So I just updated to the newest leaked build from the first post-beta leak, the new tab UI and the UI overall looks, or feels, like it takes up less space now. Haven't used it enough but it does seem a bit quicker yet again. George P Global Moderator Posted January 28, 2011 Author Global Moderator Share Posted January 28, 2011 are adblock lists supported in their inprivate browsing? You mean that new feature they talked about where you block specific content like ads etc from sites at will? It doesn't seem to be, I dunno. I know you can load a list to block things though I did that back in IE8 even. You just need to find a list first. Kyang
That white line at the top looks like crap. That's part of the border around the content area. It's the same border used in Windows, and nearly every windows app. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/970922-new-ie9-rc-build-screenshots/page/2/#findComment-593641572 Share on other sites

osm0sis
A couple of notes on 8073.6003: * While I understand the idea behind all the buttons being in the address bar, it's a little cluttered, and if you're on a site with a security certificate it becomes a jumbled mess. * Again I see the design principle behind making the tabs square to match the address bar, but they would seem a little more asthetically pleasing to me if they had a slight roundness to the edges. Either way, it's not the end of the world. * InPrivate Filtering is actually missing from the options altogether. Most likely in preparation for the subscription list functionality that will supercede it. * Oddly enough this update breaks my Notes desktop gadget. Now where the text is just displays a solid white background instead of the chosen colour - symptomatic of a CSS issue?
