They mainly need to test the servers, the backend, the leveling system, and battlelog. The beta is less about the client and more about the new stuff battlelog introduces. How are people not seeing this?

Wouldn't you want your most current version in beta?

What DICE needs to do is release a patch to fix all the bugs they've squashed so far. That way, it'll be easier to find new bugs.

Ok, can not get this game to play more than 10 min without freezing up. Did a complete re-install of Windows.??Loaded the bare minimum to play this game still the same. Have no issues any other games.

Win7 64bit, i7 920, XFX Ati 5850 black edition 6 gb ram. I tried the beta drivers and release drivers from Ati no change. Any ideas?

Problem solved. For whatever reason, my GPU fan is not changing speeds as temps rise. I simply put it in manual mode at 50% and was able to play for two hours. Now I have to figure why my fan is not responding to temp changes.

try different drivers...

You are making ridiculous assumptions. Just because the build is a month old does not mean all feedback is irrelevant...

You really think they'd release a demo where everyone falls through the ground? What DICE is trying to say, and what people refuse to understand is a beta build is NOT representative of the final. Of course bugs are fixed between the beta and final build.

But even the beta build we're supposed to be giving feedback on is outdated. How do you miss that point? And for the record, the supposed fix (I know it's only temporary for the "beta" and release supposedly has a real fix for it) for ground glitching doesn't actually work. All night people were glitching through the ground.

See, so how do we give feedback when their temporary fix doesn't work and they supposedly have a real fix in line for retail? It doesn't make any sense. It doesn't really bug me all that much, if just seems kinda...backwards, any kind of feedback we give them on the matter is completely irrelevant.

Still, I'm having great fun in this game. My SPM compared to BC2 is twice as high.

I haven't seen anyone glitching since the fix (PC) I played for quite a few hours today. Before I noticed it every game. They completely disabled the feature that was causing it....

And they have a temp fix because its a waste of time patching the beta instead of the retail codebase. The beta only lasts until the 10th...

Guys DICE already stated the reason the beta isn't the newest build... People seem to be suffering severe short-term memory loss here, or a big case of "selective reading".

They had to submit it for verification, which takes a matter of weeks at least, and I imagine they had to test the build before sending it out. Also do you guys think setting up a beta is all ponies and sunshine? They had to get battlelog and the servers all ready to go and that needed testing before the beta went out....

No one ever gives a single thought about what goes on behind the scenes releasing something like this.. But they sure are quick to bitch. I expect betas software to be beta software. Just because you've warped the word beta into "demo" does not mean every beta is a demo.

They could release an updated version of the beta for PC only, but that would anger a lot of console players.

Anyway, DICE recently released a "Welcome to the Open Beta" video:

It's a waste of time to patch the beta, yet it's (apparently) not a waste of time to release a version of the game that's outdated and ask for feedback on things that you probably already fixed? Amazingly flawed logic in that.

We know that. They did the same exact thing for BC2 and we all know how the launch of that game went. Severe connection issues for a lot of people, bad latency issues, overpowered guns (m60 in particular) and all that good stuff.

It just doesn't make any sense to give feedback on a version of the game that is out dated.

As other people have mentioned the purpose of the beta was probably to test backend server things, battlelog and maybe a few in games things as well, like leveling and score issues. This was never a beta to find glitches in a map, as tbh if it was it would be a rubbish beta, with around 10 maps, why would you test just 1 map (and for a short time 2), you would want to test them all.

Also why would they not ask for feedback on a "broken" build, its very likely someone could point out something theyve missed, plus its easier to ask people for feedback on everything rather than saying i only want feedback on such and such but not on this or that,

Remember its a beta not a demo, and also remember it closes in 8days, so would be a waste of resources. time and effort to patch fixes already in place in the final product, for something thats got a week left and after that cannot be used again

Why the hell WOULDN'T you patch a beta? Games that are in beta testing have patches all the time, it's how the developers know that the changes they've made didn't break something else. Instead, DICE says "It's ok, we've fixed it for retail." Really? Yeah, you may have fixed that issue but how do we know it didn't create another one?

Read DL's post about DICE/EA dropping the ball. This is a recurring theme with these two and I can't say I'm surprised anymore.

It looks like the meaning for beta applications/games/whatever has been changed for some odd reason. People expect a full-fledged demo when they read the word beta. And then when they're using an alpha build they see it as a beta. Also, I don't understand why one should be all negative about the publisher/developer when they're giving us part the game, as a beta, for free. They could've decided to only have a closed beta for the MoH LE buyers. But no, they've deviced to give everyone a chance to play the beta. What more do you guys want? Everyone could've expected that their expectations of a beta couldn't be reached. Just relax, play the game as it is and then when the full game drops give your critique to the published/developer.

WTF are they playing at? Why was Caspian Sea included, and then pulled?! I've just loaded the game for the first time FINALLY, and have spent about 15 minutes getting "A generic game error was reported" messages which doing Quick Play and basically not being able to even launch the game. Electronic Arts RULE.

My conspiracy theory: Caspian Border is too big a map for console because of the 24 players limit, and DICE afraid they will cancel their orders because the gameplay will be disastrously boring.

The reason I call it a demo is because that is what it is. We are playing a month old version of the game and any feedback we give as part of this month old beta is irrelevant as it has already all been fixed.

The reason for having a Beta is so that bugs can be found and reported, that was already done before the Open Beta even started, DICE have confirmed on their own website that all the bugs people are experiencing in the Open Beta have already been fixed for the retail copy. This happened before the Open Beta begun.

Do you see now why this isn't a real Beta and just a Demo?

If you want to see what a real Beta is look at Team Fortress 2. They listen to the gamers who are playing with the Beta client, the changes are made, a new Beta is pushed out to the gamers, once all the bugs are squashed the changes are pushed to the main client. It's done in small steps with the Beta testers testing every fix to make sure the fixes actually work.

And again if this was just EA / DICE wanting to test their servers then why are they asking me for feedback on the open beta? - They can monitor their servers performance from their side, I cant.

We're not confused at all. The point of a beta is to test the game and report on any bugs and give feedback and all that good stuff. The problem is they've openly told us the version of the game we're playing is outdated so all feedback we can give is moot. Kinda defeats the purpose of a beta test.

Except there is still plenty of feedback to give about anything else but game bugs. People seem to think that feedback automatically means game bugs only when we still have feedback to give about Battlelog bugs, gameplay ideas and general gameplay feedback like weapon balancing, position of the MCOMs/Flags etc. I haven't seen stating DICE/EA anywhere that they want feedback about (game) bugs only^^ Surely if any changes are made based on community feedback I doubt they will made it for the final but there still will be tons of patches to come after the game is released, like BC2 which was only patched a week ago again!

The point with developers these days, they can't really win. If they don't release a Beta people will call them out after release "Why haven't you released a Beta so we could have given feedback about the game?" If they do release a Beta stuff like now happens with outdated versions etc. because people don't think about the verification phase for consoles which is hardly DICE's/EA's fault. Would they have released the Beta only on PC or gave the PC guys the most recent version people would have screamed "Why are we on the console left out or get outdated versions?"

It's not about pleasing the customer anymore, it's about "Which customer group do I want to please?" The general masses, the hardcore crowd which is dead serious about Beta testing or the console players? No matter which you chose, the other groups will be mad so compromises have to be made and I think DICE handled it pretty well with releasing a outdated Beta for everyone to atleast gather some feedback, the only mistake in my eyes that they made is that they haven't used Caspian Border but Metro. I was lucky and managed to play Caspian Border and really, compared to Metro it's like a completely different (better!) game.

I don't mind people complaining or stating their opinion, that's always good and the right of everybody but please they should think of the whole thing, videogames are huge investments nowadays for companies with the increasing demands and graphical fidelity and many people seem to overlook that :pinch:

And in general while reading the Battlelog forums I see many people complaining just for the sake of complaining with threads like "WTF IS THIS BATTLELOG SH**? REMOVE IT NOW" instead of actually offering constructive criticism which I find plain sad :/

^True that, but is that really a reason to be all negative about them? They still gave you something for free. I don't see any reason to get all negative about it.

@Vice: It's still a beta as a demo doesn't contain bugs and whatnot. I don't get it why people are calling this a demo all of a sudden at all :s Keep on slapping a title on it yourselves when the people who released it actually call it a beta.

I really don't get it any more. Developers decide to give us something, everyone gets greedy. Developers decide to take long while developing a game, everyone demands a release instantly. Players want an HD release of an old game, they start demanding it from the developers. When did it all change to the players demanding everything from these developers?

You just don't get it. And I don't think you have the capacity to get it either. Your minds made up.

Wow, here I was thinking we could talk all polite in this thread. Guess I was wrong. Oh wait, I guess YOU don't have the capacity to talk politely without getting all butt hurt about something.

I do in fact get it that it's odd of them to give us a month old build and are expecting us to give them feedback on that. But the thing I don't understand is that some people are almost hating on that fact.

Does anyone know when they will release nvidia or ati drivers that are compatible with mobile gfx cards? I tried to update to the 285.x drivers offered but I am currently running a Nvidia Geforce 260M and when I go to install the drivers it says that my card is not compatible.

Thanks! This game is amazing.

i agree with what you've said except this part - "when the full game drops give your critique to the published/developer." No, the beta is the perfect time to give critique so that developers can address the identified problems before the game launches or shortly after. That's kinda the purpose of betas - to identify problems before the game ships.

What is NOT right is to draw conclusions about the quality of the final product. That will be determined on 25.10.
