There's a bunch of bugs, but that's to be expected. Consider it an early testing release so that the proper 1.8 release will be better.

+ Added a brand new biome generation code that simplifies life a lot and makes things much more exciting for the future

Shift-clicking into a full chest/inventory crashing the game was fixed.

Shift-clicking items in and out of a dispenser crashing the game fixed.

So how much more "gamey" is 1.8?

I always said I would join in the Minecraft craze if 1.8 actually added some substance to survival mode.
