ViperAFK
i think mozilla will focus on 64 bit more when 64-bit plugins will be ready There is already 64 bit flash and 64 bit java. Neyht Member Posted April 10, 2011 Member Share Posted April 10, 2011 If it hasn't been answered yet, going to about:config and manually changing app.update.desiredChannel to nightly will put you back into the nightly channel. Brandon H Supervisor Posted April 11, 2011 Supervisor Share Posted April 11, 2011 There is already 64 bit flash and 64 bit java. yes there's 64-bit java but the 64-bit flash was only a preview build that was never finished or updated from last year besides the fact that there need to be a lot more 64-bit plugin support than just those two, and the fact that the 64-bit version afaik breaks many extensions as well Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/980176-meet-firefox-50/page/10/#findComment-593875534 Share on other sites
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted April 11, 2011 Veteran Share Posted April 11, 2011 There still isn't officially supported 64bit builds, and the cutoff for Firefox 5 is tomorrow (That's when the main dev trunk is branched off for Aurora) They need to fix all the errors first, then they need to implement support for running 32bit plugins with a 64bit host (Which they did before the 64bit mac builds became official*) * They were already producing 64bit Mac builds for a while, but they didn't merge them into the single binary until after the plugin stuff landed. AltecXP
I'd actually prefer if they did something like: X.0 release -6 Months- where X.1-.4 are critical bug fixes X.5 release with bug fixes and optimizations of last X.0 release -6 months- new X.0 with new features Repeat I really dont get the push form companies lately to get the built numbers up. I feel software should cycle through optimization and feature builds. (impossible dream) I wonder if Microsoft, Apple, and Mozilla ect. took one year to do NOTHING but take the software they have now and only clean up the code or rewrite parts to make them more optimized with out adding ANY new features, how the outcome would be. I would assume they would be better on memory, perhaps less bugs just due to how more manageable/readable the code would be, better performance, possibly even smaller install sizes. Maybe I'm just anal about clean code and making it legible and correctly commented, but if I worked at MS or other such company I'd push to have at least part of the code cleaned like that every cycle or two. The network/audio stacks in Windows 7 were rewrote in Vista, I'd want for Windows 8 those teams to clean and optimize that code up as much as they can before adding new features. Same fore the UI and other teams. Then again for all I know they already do that. So what do I know? aznkid25
Starting today we can update to the aurora builds correct? Is it a separate download, or can we download the 4/12 nightly, & update it that way? BetaAddict
Just wondering, will they release an update that adds the channel switch for the FF4, or will you have to manually download the the nightly to access it? Edit: lol guess I am not the only one wondering the same thing as the person above posted the same question while I was still typing. The_Decryptor Veteran Posted April 12, 2011 Veteran Share Posted April 12, 2011 Support for CSS3 Animations has landed, and they made the cutoff for being in 5.0 (of course they could still be disabled if bugs appear) And the channel switcher wouldn't be backported to 4.0, if you want a newer build you'll have to download it (And switching to stable would downgrade you to 4.0, requiring you to re-download a newer build) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/980176-meet-firefox-50/page/10/#findComment-593879706 Share on other sites

bogas04
More theme stuff landed for Firefox 5.0 before branching Bug 640490 - Tab titles seem inconsistently vertically aligned Bug 465086 - When closing a tab, other tabs should not resize until cursor leaves tab toolbar (w00t!!) So now we have three visible theme changes for Firefox 5.0 , one is tab bar height (not tab height) is shrunken , giving one more pixel for content in normal mode , two is drop-shadows are dropped for navbar buttons and three , tabs wont resize until cursor is moved (parity chrome) !!! Hell Yeah!!! and this, idk what its meant for , but seems a big bug :p btw aurora is live (only hourlies at present , with new icons etc) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/980176-meet-firefox-50/page/10/#findComment-593879982 Share on other sites

mancode20
Are they working on smooth scrolling? Even with the great Yet Another Smooth Scrolling extension, scrolling is still SOMETIMES a little choppy. A little stutter here and there. Not too bad. I just feel Opera and Chrome definitely have better smoothness when scrolling. Chrome's is perfect when using its great extension, Chromium Wheel Smooth Scroller. Memory usage and start-up time are obviously very important as well. I hope they improve in those areas for Firefox 5 and beyond. Those are the three main areas that are holding it back from true greatness. The only pages I have a problem on is youtube for some reason, It gets terribly choppy. Other flash sites are fine. dnast
Are they working on smooth scrolling? A fix landed in the nightlies a week or so ago. I haven't really used it (my scroll wheel barely works anymore so I use autoscroll), but people seem to be pleased with the improvement.
