+BeLGaRaTh Subscriber¹ Posted June 20, 2011 Subscriber¹ Share Posted June 20, 2011 Will Fx 4.0.1 be offered Fx 5 or will I have to manually update? Roguefoxx
So is this more of a performance update than anything? Because I don't really notice anything new or exciting about it and am just wondering if there is something I'm not seeing... Don't get me wrong though, performance updates are exciting. The_Decryptor Veteran Posted June 21, 2011 Veteran Share Posted June 21, 2011 They're following the Chrome model, where updates are time based, not feature based (there are a couple of new features, like CSS Animations, but nothing compared to older releases) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/980176-meet-firefox-50/page/22/#findComment-594087846 Share on other sites
M4nB3arP1g
Great release. Its fast for me and no addon troubles here but then again I am launching it from a ssd and only use abp. :shiftyninja: Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/980176-meet-firefox-50/page/22/#findComment-594087862 Share on other sites

I know it sounds stupid but I prefer it to be offered as an update rather than manually update. It will be offered. Just updated to version 5. Sadly I think FF is getting uglier with each release. Er, anything specific in Fx5? I don't recall anything obvious changing in the UI. Deo Domuique
Great release. Its fast for me and no addon troubles here but then again I am launching it from a ssd and only use abp. :shiftyninja: This combination is essential. The guy behind ABP is working so good that makes the addon like native Firefox's function. Also, it gives you the fastest browsing experience across all browsers. Mainly because the blocker does truly block and as I said it embeds perfectly into Fx. I've it installed on SSD too with a good processor ( i5 2500 ). The results are just instant browsing. Not to mention what is coming... Like better JavaScript Engine and Hardware Acceleration mechanism. In a while Fx will be more than perfect. Optimized and even more bugs-free from the major overhaul it got when 4 released. In general, Fx 5 got around 1000 -mostly unseen- "bugs" fixed. This means optimizing. The_Decryptor Veteran Posted June 25, 2011 Veteran Share Posted June 25, 2011 So one day browsers can use 4+ gb of memory. But of course, since people complain about them even using 200MB of RAM, that's still a long way off. remixedcat
They prolly thought the performance enhancements were worth the major jump.... I think it is so far.... 32 tabs open duration 2 days... but most will agree a 4.5 would have been more suitable. Yusuf M. Veteran Posted July 2, 2011 Veteran Share Posted July 2, 2011 Some of you may have noticed this but some sites (including Neowin) now show slightly more "condensed" text. It appears to be caused by this update for Windows: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2545698 It's supposed to change the way some fonts are rendered in IE9 but it also affects Fx5. The_Decryptor Veteran Posted July 3, 2011 Veteran Share Posted July 3, 2011 ... It's supposed to change the way some fonts are rendered in IE9 but it also affects Fx5. Since it changes the fonts, it actually affects the way these fonts are rendered in any app that uses DirectWrite (So IE9, Firefox 4+, Steam, etc.). No idea why Microsoft claimed only IE would/is affected in that KB article. Tech Star
Does anyone know why it lags when I close a tab? When the tab is closed it takes a few seconds for the other tabs to re-order themselves in the tab bar. I hate the scrolling in Firefox... it takes pages forever to be scrolled up and down. But I don't think 5 has that change yet, so not sure whats going on there. I think that its stupid if you have multiple tabs open at a time. :/ Anyone know of a way to change it back? Ah, I guess that is it then. I personally like the change. The reason behind it is that if you have a lot of tabs open and are closing many of them when it resizes it makes it more difficult to select the tab you want because they all move. There's no way to turn it off to my knowledge. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/980176-meet-firefox-50/page/22/#findComment-594153616 Share on other sites
