Bloodwork
I don't really use Facetime so I removed it from my dock. However, every time I restart the Facetime icon is back on the dock. How can I stop this from happening aside from the obvious of uninstalling Facetime?
.Neo
Try trashing com.apple.dock.plist in ~/Library/Preferences and restart your Dock with Activity Monitor or by logging out - in again. It will reset your Dock to defaults. Note: "~" is your Home folder.
Bloodwork
Didn't work. Followed your instructions and removed Facetime after I logged in, logged back out and in again, Facetime was back on the dock.
.Neo
Do you have it set as a login item? System Preferences > Accounts > Login items or alternatively right click the Face Time icon in the Dock > Options > Open at login
Bloodwork
I do not have it set as a login item
Glassed Silver
Maybe use the beta version? It doesn't do that... at least on my end... Glassed Silver:mac
.Neo
I do not have it set as a login item And you are sure you followed my earlier instructions correctly? Trash the com.apple.dock.plist file and then restart the Dock? Don't remove the FaceTime icon, just trash the .plist file so it resets your Dock to defaults. .Neo
Okay try this: Go to /Library/Preferences and locate the file com.apple.dockfixup.plist. Open the file with an application like Dashcode or Textwrangler. Locate the following part under the 10.6.6 section: <array> <dict> <key>path</key> <string>/Applications/App Store.app</string> <key>after</key> <string>begin</string> </dict> <dict> <key>after</key> <string>/Applications/Safari.app</string> <key>path</key> <string>/Applications/FaceTime.app</string> </dict> </array> Delete it and then save the file. Be sure to make a backup of the file before trying this.
Elliott
Are you using MobileMe sync? I've had issues with that and icons reappearing when I use its Dock sync. The data at MobileMe just won't relent until I reset my sync data and just let MobileMe do what it wants.
Bloodwork
Just and update, I was able to finally fix the problem by using the option in Onyx for LaunchServices rebuild. No more Facetime icon on reboot.
