And when that happens, everything will clear up. All will be put in a logical, normal ( ala Chrome ) order. It was the beginning that made the situation for everyone a little bit confusing.

Agreed. But even with Chrome it does happen that the stable and betas are the same for a few days just after the stable is released.

I'm taking the risk of posting a chunk from here (http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla.dev.planning/browse_thread/thread/7a40ffba0b6f323d#) in the hope it might reduce confusion:

All:

The "war room" for the mozilla-central to mozilla-aurora source code migration[1] will take place tomorrow. If you are interested in the source code migration mechanics feel free to listen in / stop by.

We'll be following https://wiki.mozilla.org/Releases/Merge_Checklist and http://www.google.com/url?sa=D&q=http://mozilla.github.com/process-releases/draft/development_specifics/%23branching as closely as possible.

Please remember the source migration date may be different than the date an update is offered to channel users (see http://www.google.com/url?sa=D&q=http://blog.mozilla.com/channels/2011/05/11/merge-dates-vs-release-dates/)

Edit: fixed links, I hope

vasa1, thanks. Exciting fun! I think it's something like another 600 changes since Fx5.

Some people feel that there's a rush to get things in over the last couple of days and that it maybe safer to avoid the next "few" Aurora updates (for those on Aurora) unless one is happy with a "nightly" sort of situation. I'm using Aurora as my regular browser and will update daily. (I have Fx4.01 (portableapps.com, separate profile) as a standby.)

I can't see much stuff landing on Aurora, in the last few days only a few bug fixes have landed (compared to the nightlies where multiple new features are landing)

My post was based on this (http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=10835873#p10835873) and a couple of others which I can't remember / track down.

Ahh, I see what he means. He's talking about having a 1-2 day freeze on the nightly trunk before merging to Aurora. Which flies in the face of having the Aurora trunk in the first place (it's for stabilising the code from the nightly branch for a beta release, so why then do the stabilisation on the nightly branch?)

Yeah, don't expect Aurora to be as stable at the start of a cycle as at the end. Obviously since I'm an Aurora user I want it to be stable, but don't have too high an expectation.

It is a bit silly to have a mad rush of landings just before merge, but this is the first time - next time it should hopefully be a little less so. Having said that, just because it's a lot of patches, doesn't mean they risk a lot of instability if they've merged from other stabilized branches.

Looks like they're going to turn off nightly updates to Aurora for a couple of days.

Bug 659258 - Disable nightly updates until merge to mozilla-aurora has stabilized ?

Not a bad decision, IMO.

Not sure when this started (I know I didn't have the problem days ago), but when using the nightly I don't seem to be able to see Userstyles/Scripts, because when I highlight either on the left navigation pane nothing happens

Firefox just stays on the last shown tab.

Anyone else having this issue?

It's a known issue - the addons need to update how they interact. Mentioned here: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=2206493&start=15 and http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=2207555

Thanks, all I needed to know is it's a documented issue and not a problem my side.

Just as a heads-up: The nightly builds are now on version 7.0a1, which leads to incompatible add-ons.

About%20Nightly.png

Solution: Go to about:config and create a new boolean value:

extensions.checkCompatibility.nightly

Set it to false and you're set.

By the way is this url bar change something to do with nightly?

omnibar.jpg

The arrows pointing towards a url when typying? It's incredibly annoying as when I hit enter it doesn't search google for just the word I'm typing but puts the whole url in

Hitting enter on neow puts this into google search

I'm running the omnibar extension, however it's not received any updates for a month or so.

According to the MozillaZine forums, they added the AutoFill feature.

I'm not a big fan of it either, to disable it, set the following key to false: browser.urlbar.autoFill
