Elliot B.
When you drag a game shortcut created by Steam into the Windows Vista/7 Games Explorer folder (Windows doesn't automatically detect Steam games), there is usually no icon, the shortcut can not be deleted without going into the Registry Editor and the shortcut sometimes doesn't even work. To solve this: Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games Right click in the folder and go to New then Shortcut. In the location box, enter J:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam.exe" -applaunch 440 and click Next. Type the name of the shortcut and click Finish. Note: The paths will likely differ on your system. If the shortcut doesn't appear in the Games Explorer, move/copy your newly created shortcut directly into the Games Explorer folder. You will notice the shortcut has the standard 32x32 Steam icon. I have not figured out how to change this icon (changing the shortcut's icon that you created is fine but once it appears in the Games Explorer, it reverts to the 32x32 Steam icon). Perhaps someone could shed some light on this? Nayos
Looks good but way too much effort involved. Oh definitely. Making the first one and getting all the tools necessary was a right pain. However, it only takes me about a minute to make more. I do like things on my computer to look perfect though. xTdub
Cool tip, although Windows detected most of my Steam games already. This is good for the few that weren't found. Looks good but way too much effort involved. Nice desktop! What VS are you using? Jamushroom Veteran Posted May 2, 2011 Veteran Share Posted May 2, 2011 Here's a thought; Why not use the Steam Library to launch Steam games? :p The tiles in the Library are much nicer then those icons. I like pressing the Windows button on my keyboard, typing the first few characters of the game title and pressing Enter. I also dislike the games installing shortcuts etc. to the Start menu - so having shortcuts in the Games Explorer folder solves all my issues :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/991558-create-a-working-steam-game-shortcut-in-the-games-explorer/#findComment-593950362 Share on other sites
