Guest
So... why not? Seems like a pretty standard thing to have.... is there an add-on that'll give me this behaviour? Miuku.
http://www.phil.im/2011/04/27/how-to-enable-firefox-download-warning-on-quit/ M'yes - no add-on needed, just change in the parameter under about:config. ArKeYa
I'm cautious enough for that to happen at me. But it doesn't by default? :omg: That's bad design. "properly configured", you can resume the transfer when you open your browser again. Unfortunately this is not the case with many locations and craptacular services like Filesonic, Rapidshare et al. Most servers I know don't allow download resuming. Jen Smith
If I recall, the download window is shown by default unless you turned it off, so even if you close the browser window that'll still be running. Personally I use Download StatusBar (not a fan of the extra window), if I have something running and I close the browser, it'll automatically pop open the download window so downloads don't get interrupted. Good to know for the QuitBehavior config though, jotting that one down. spikey_richie
When I close FF4 with no download related add-ons, a 2nd FF window remains open with my downloads continuing. Yes, this is the behaviour that I'm used to but I recently got download statusbar as I was expecting FF4 to make it.. well.. good. It didn't so I figured there's an add-on to make it good. The download window doesn't automatically pop-up for me though.. ah well I really don't want to see it anyway :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/994228-why-doesnt-firefox-warn-me-im-downloading-stuff-on-close/#findComment-593948524 Share on other sites
Jen Smith
The download window doesn't automatically pop-up for me though.. ah well I really don't want to see it anyway :p Yea there's an option for it to pop up the download window on quit but I dont think its on by default.. but since you're not wanting to see it anyways, yea the other method is obviously better. Miuku.
I personally use Download Manager Tweak Firefox extension because I like having the downloads under a tab (I'm weird like that). +jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted May 2, 2011 Subscriber² Share Posted May 2, 2011 Doesn't Chrome also do this on Windows? I seem to remember closing a browser window and the entire program shutting down. Arg. Though this behaviour may have changed now. God bless OS X for not quitting anything if you close the window. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/994228-why-doesnt-firefox-warn-me-im-downloading-stuff-on-close/#findComment-593948536 Share on other sites
+Gary7 Subscriber² Posted May 2, 2011 Subscriber² Share Posted May 2, 2011 When I close Firefox with a download in progress , the download manager box remains open and shows that there is a Download in Progress. This is default behavior. I have never done this but I just tried it to see what happens. Chasethebase Reporter Posted May 2, 2011 Reporter Share Posted May 2, 2011 If I'm downloading something, the download box is open, and the icon has a green progress bar. Never an issue. Guest
I've gone for using Download Manager Tweak, so I can have it in a tab, on top of setting browser.taskbar.previews.enable to true. See the pic to get what that setting does. I can also pin the download manager tab as an App Tab if I want, too. Guest
Fx4 already has that on options: I figured it'd be the sort of thing that'd be in the options menu but I was rummaging around about:config for browser.tabs.closeButtons and came across the taskbar preview thing. Yusuf M. Veteran Posted May 8, 2011 Veteran Share Posted May 8, 2011 By default, Firefox 4 should keep the download manager open for active downloads.
