Microsoft Premier Support Reporting Tool is a powerful diagnostic utility that will quickly assemble detailed reports on just about every aspect of a PC.

If a far-away friend asks you for help with a computer problem, for instance, then you'll need to know all about their system - and that's where the Microsoft Premier Support Reporting Tool comes in. Email them the file, and all they have to do is run it: there's no installation involved, and the program will immediately begin creating a report on their computer's configuration.

Once the process has finished (which may not be for 5 or 10 minutes on some systems), an Explorer window will open, pointing at the report file (if not, it's in the \Windows\MPSReports\PFE\cab folder by default). Your friend should then email that to you. It's a CAB file, so you should then be able to expand it somewhere to view the contents. And that's when you'll see just how thorough this tool has been.

You get all the event logs from the target PC, for instance.

An NFO file holds detailed system information on the system.

And a host of configuration files tell you about the PC's startup programs, its installed services and drivers, its power configuration, scheduled tasks, installed printers, Internet Explorer configuration, and network setup. There's detailed information on Microsoft Office (if it's installed), recent crashes (including crash dumps), installed Windows updates and the list goes on - you really do get just about everything you'll need to know about the target computer.

This tool is a viewer companion to the Microsoft Product Support Reports tool, allowing for the collected results to be reviewed using a graphical user interface. Please be aware that not all the datapoints collected by Microsoft Product Support Reports are exposed by the viewer companion. This version of Microsoft Product Support Reports viewer does not parse results files collected by older versions of MPSReports.
