GitHub now supports dark theme, here's how you can enable it

Microsoft acquired the popular code-sharing platform GitHub back in 2018 and since then the company has made several changes to the platform.

Earlier this week, GitHub announced that the service now supports dark theme. The announcement came during the company's annual GitHub Universe conference that was held online due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

If you are a regular GitHub user then you can follow the steps below to enable dark mode on GitHub:

• Open GitHub.com and sign in using your GitHub account.
• Click on your profile picture on the top right corner and select "Settings"
• Navigate to "Appearance" and select "Dark" to apply the dark theme. Microsoft has also added a "Default to system" option that will pick the theme based on your system settings. You can choose that too if you tend to switch between dark and light theme on your PC and want GitHub to follow the same rules.

Microsoft has noted that the feature is currently in beta so we may see some changes to it before the final release. Nevertheless, the company has made the option available to all the GitHub users so if you are interested in trying out the dark theme then you can follow the aforementioned steps.
