A few months ago, video game publisher 2K Games announced the cancellation of WWE 2K21 and announced WWE 2K Battlegrounds as the latest entrant to the WWE series of games instead. At the time, the newly-revealed over-the-top wrestling title was assigned a fall 2020 release window.
Today, the American game maker shed more light on the game's upcoming launch by announcing the international release date. WWE 2K Battlegrounds is scheduled to land on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Google Stadia and PC via Steam on September 18, 2020. A new trailer for the game has also been revealed, as seen below.
WWE 2K Battlegrounds will have four playing modes: Exhibition, Campaign, King of the Battleground and Online. Many popular wrestlers are to be featured in the game as playable characters including Andre the Giant, Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Randy Orton, Kofi Kingston, Drew McIntyre, Roman Reigns, Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Asuka, Daniel Bryan, Mankind and Yokozuna.
A summary of the game reads:
"Featuring over 70 WWE Superstars and Legends, WWE 2K Battlegrounds is an all-new, over-the-top, multiplayer arcade experience featuring interactive environments and devastating power-ups. Battle your friends online or on the couch in loads of match types, including the new King of the Battleground and online tournaments."
The game is priced at $39.99 for the Standard Edition and $49.99 for the Digital Deluxe Edition. Those who pre-purchase the game are eligible for the Edge Totally Awesome Pre-Order Pack. Pre-orders for WWE 2K Battlegrounds are currently open and can be placed on its official website.
