About a month after the release of its RTX 30 series mobile Ampere GPUs, Nvidia announced that it requires OEMs to disclose the TGP figures of their RTX 3000 mobile parts since it had provided the freedom to the OEMs to set their own power values instead of sticking to reference specifications. In relation to that, there is some positive news for gamers from Acer today.
The firm has announced that it will be allowing more performance headroom by raising the Total Graphics Power (TGP) values of its RTX 3000 series mobile chips inside several of its gaming laptops which should potentially lead to higher clocks and more performance. Updated firmware will be released for these models that will raise the TGP depending on how much the cooling system of that particular model can handle.
Marcel Behm, Senior Business Manager of Acer Germany, has said:
Our claim to gaming hardware is to offer a balance between the best possible CPU and GPU performance, volume and durability. Accordingly, we are pleased to be able to offer both interested buyers and many of our existing customers improved graphics performance with the BIOS update.
The changes will apply to variants of the Predator Helios 300, Triton 300, Triton 300 SE, and Nitro 5. The models are listed below alongside their TGP gains:
