Microsoft currently has over 80 retail and specialty stores open in the U.S. and Canada, and as we reported earlier this week, the company has officially announced plans to open 11 more specialty stores in the U.S. in May. However, it looks like the company has plans to keep expanding in the next few months, with even more U.S. locations.
A quick check of the Microsoft Careers website shows that the company is hiring for store managers in locations that have not been officially announced. One of them is for a specialty store in Staten Island, New York, which means the massive New York City area will get its second such location.
Other cities that will either open new specialty or regular Microsoft Stores in the near future include.Short Hills, New Jersey, Montgomery and Towson, Maryland, and Lynnwood and Tukwila, Washington. The opening of these stores combined with the previous announcements means that Microsoft could be close to launching its 100th retail location in the near future.
It looks like Microsoft is concentrating its new store openings in the U.S. at the moment. While the company launched a number of stores in Canada in late 2013, the Microsoft Careers pages shows no openings for any unannounced retail locations in that country.
