With the original Age of Empires and its hugely popular sequel Age of Empires II having Definitive Editions out and available for a while now, Microsoft has finally turned its attention towards offering the same treatment to the third entry. Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition is incoming to PC on October 15, 2020, with massive enhancements.
The game has been updated with new 3D assets, a modernized UI, 4K resolution support, and a fully remastered soundtrack, among other enhancements. Beyond including all the previously released content for the original title - including the expansions -, the Definitive Edition release will also bring The Swedes and The Incas as two new playable civilizations, as well as Historical Battles and Art of War challenges as new game modes.
Just like the rest of the real-time strategy series, Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition is coming to PC, and is now available for pre-purchase via the Microsoft Store and Steam for $19.99. As is usually the case with new Xbox Game Studios titles, Xbox Game Pass for PC subscribers will also be able to jump in on day one.
Microsoft is offering a 25% discount for Steam players who already own the Age of Empires III: Complete Collection. Xbox Game Pass for PC and Ultimate members will see the same discount on the Microsoft Store version.
Those who are interested in testing early builds of the title and providing feedback to the developer can sign up for the Age of Empires Insider Program by heading over here. Age of Empires IV is still in development at Relic Entertainment, which is to be the first new mainline entry in the real-time strategy series since 2005.
