Earlier this week, Apple released a firmware upgrade for its second-generation AirPods, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max. The AirPods Pro earphones will have the new Conversation Boost, thanks to the update. It's part of what the Cupertino firm revealed at WWDC 2021. Another notable addition during this update is the ability to find AirPods Pro and AirPods Max using the Find My app.
The firm designed this feature to assist people with mild hearing impairment to better engage in conversations. The feature makes use of the earbuds' beam-forming microphones, which increase the volume of the person talking in front of you, so you can hear them clearly. Additionally, it features the ability to reduce ambient noise.
Updates for AirPods Pro are installed automatically, so there's no way to force them. Connecting your earphones to an iPhone or iPad should automatically install the latest firmware version in a short duration of time. To check if your AirPods Pro firmware has been updated to the latest version (version 4A400), follow these steps:
- Connect your AirPods Pro to your iOS device.
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap on General.
- Tap on About.
- Tap on AirPods.
- Look at the number next to "Firmware Version.
Once updated, the feature can be turned on by an iPhone or iPad running iOS 15 or iPadOS15 by heading over to the Settings app, tapping Accessibility, Audio/Visual, and Headphone Accommodations options in this order. Then, the user needs to scroll down and select Transparency Mode and toggle on Conversation Boost.
