Amazon has announced that it is expanding Amazon Key to customers across the U.S. The service allows customers to equip their residences with keyless entry, remote lock and unlock, and guest access. The in-home delivery service is available to Prime members but it is still restricted to 37 cities around the country and surrounding areas.
With the expansion, Amazon has added a new feature – exit and entry video clips. With this feature, customers can see people entering and leaving the residence when the door is locked or unlocked. The optional feature will send customers a notification when anyone enters or leaves, and leave them with a video clip which can be viewed whenever it’s convenient.
Rohit Shrivastava, General Manager of Amazon Key, said:
“Customers have told us that they love how easy it is to use Amazon Key for keyless entry and door monitoring from anywhere with the Amazon Key App. It’s a great service for busy families; you no longer have to worry about giving keys to service providers like house cleaners, instead you can give them their own code right from your Amazon Key App. We’re excited that customers across the country can now take advantage of these convenient features.”
In addition to the nationwide availability, the firm also announced that customers can now choose from five new smart locks from lock manufacturers Kwikset, and Yale, bringing the total to eight.
For a limited time, Amazon is allowing customers to buy the Amazon Key Home Kit from $169.99, down from $289.98; that’s a discount of between $109.99 – 139.99 per Kit. Each Kit contains an Amazon Cloud Cam and one of the eight smart locks.
