At Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference earlier this year, the company announced the Amazon Prime Video is coming to Apple TV. Today, the app is finally available, as announced by an Amazon press release.
For many cord-cutters, Amazon Prime Video is a necessity, alongside other subscription services like Netflix and Hulu. Users will now be able to watch plenty of Amazon original shows like The Man in the High Castle, The Grand Tour, The Tick, and Mozart in the Jungle, along with thousands of other shows that are available through the service, like Doctor Who.
Prime Video is available for the new Apple TV 4K and "previous generations of Apple TV", although it seems likely that it's only also available for the fourth-generation model, since that's the only other one with an App Store. We've reached out to Amazon for clarification on this.
If you've been using Prime Video for iOS, then this should come as no surprise, but you won't be able to buy content through the app on your Apple TV. You'll only be able to watch TV shows and movies that come from Amazon Prime, or have already been purchased.
Update: Amazon has confirmed to Neowin that Prime Video is available for the third- and fourth-generation Apple TV, along with the Apple TV 4K.
