Amazon announced the all-new Fire HD 8 today, adding a few iterative improvements to the old model. If you buy the new device, you'll find that it has 50% more RAM at 1.5GB, double the internal storage at 16 or 32GB, and Amazon is promising 12 hours of battery life.
The company also announced that its Alexa digital assistant will be coming to its Fire HD tablets. It will come as a software update to the Fire HD 8, Fire HD 10, and of course, the all-new Fire HD 8. If you're one of those people that jumped on top of the $50 Fire tablet, you're out of luck.
Alexa was made popular through Amazon's standalone Echo devices, but has since made its way to Fire TVs. There are well over a thousand third-party "skills", which allow you to add different functionality to the service, such as the ability to play Jeopardy or pay your Capital One bill.
As you can see from the image above, the design remains mostly the same with the Fire HD 8. It also has the same 1280x800 display, which comes in at 189ppi, and a 1.3GHz quad-core processor.
Starting at $89.99, the all-new Fire HD 8 will begin shipping on September 21. You can pre-order now, but the software update with Alexa will be available in the coming months.
