AMD Future Vision: 64-Bits or Bust

At AMD, our approach to technology is to transform it into something useful – innovation. The difference between technology and innovation is customers, because they decide what works and what doesn't, and what has value and what doesn't.

For more than three decades, AMD has pursued this customer-oriented approach to innovation, and dedicated our company to delivering powerful solutions to end users. Today, we're committed to extending that role into the future and pioneering pervasive 64-bit computing. AMD is convinced that future is faster, more efficient, driven by customer demand for more capable computing, and based on the existing, industry-standard x86 instruction set architecture (ISA).

We also think that the future will arrive sooner than most people think. Why? Today's 32-bit computing environment is constrained by the immoveable object of memory limitations. These processors can't address more than four gigabytes of memory at one time, and 32-bit operating systems typically can't manage more than about two gigabytes of memory. This immoveable object is about to collide with three unstoppable forces in the world of technology users.
