AMD Socket M2 Delayed Until Q2 2006

AMD's 940-pin, DDR2 enabled Socket M2 processors will appear slightly later than first expected according to new roadmaps. While availability was previous expected by March of next year, it now appears that actual availability will be delayed a month or two longer. The new socket will see processors with three different cores - the dual core Windsor, the single core Orleans, and the Sempron-class Manila.

Those who are considering or have recently purchased a Socket 939 processor should not fret - the DDR1 sporting socket is listed on AMD's roadmap under the "performance" segment until Q1 of 2007, meaning that further support should be expected for quite some time.
