During The Game Awards show last year, it was revealed that the social deduction sensation Among Us was sneaking into the virtual reality space. This brand-new experience, aptly named Among Us VR, would have the cartoon astronauts (who now have fully realized hands) make their accusations and ejections in a much more immersive way.
The VR game's primary developer Schell Games, the studio that produced hits like I Expect You To Die and Until You Fall, has kept details of the project mostly under wraps, until now. More details about the game finally arrived today during the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase. Catch the trailer below.
Many of the gameplay beats from the original 2D Among Us have been translated to VR in this version, with players having to explore the map with other crewmates, complete assignments, crawl through dusty air vents, and even bump into bodies of other unfortunate astronauts. Thanks to VR, players will even be able to look over their shoulders to see if someone with nefarious ideas are coming at them.
Emergency meetings are even more animated and immersive, as players will be literally pointing their fingers at each other before voting off the supposed imposters. There is a minimum 4-player limit for these VR rounds, with the maximum player count capping out at 10.
"Bringing the Among Us our fans love to virtual reality is an exciting new journey for us, and is in the capable hands of Robot Teddy and Schell Games. We can't wait for our Crewmates to experience the game in a brand new way," Innersloth community director Victoria Tran added.
Among Us VR is coming to the Meta Quest 2 and PC VR headsets. While a firm launch date was not announced today, the title has a holiday 2022 launch window attached to it.
