Last year, Ubisoft's CEO stated that the company was in "talks" with Netflix to develop a TV series based on one of its popular franchises. However, the executive did not explicitly confirm which Ubisoft property would be spun off as a TV show at that time.
Now, in a Reddit AMA, Assassin's Creed head of content Aymar Azaizia has said that a TV show based on the game's story is in development.
When asked about the Assassin's Creed TV show, Azaizia had the following to say:
It's like the movie guys, we will take our time, to get sure we deliver something we can be proud of, but if you wander [sic] if it's on our plan... YES.
While the executive didn't go into specifics, the confirmation certainly raises some interesting questions. It's not yet known if the series is the same one that Ubisoft was in talks with Netflix about, and whether it will be a live-action series or an animated one - with the former expected to attract more viewers.
Regardless, the folks over at Ubisoft will certainly be hoping that the Assassin's Creed TV show fares better than the movie, which had a very mediocre critical reception, and currently sports a rather abysmal 17% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. We have reached out to Ubisoft for more details, and will let you know if they respond.
