Less than a day after Samsung’s release schedule for the Android 11-based One UI 3 update was spotted, users have begun reporting on Reddit and our comments that the Galaxy S20 series has begun receiving the update in the U.S., specifically the devices on Verizon’s network.
The rollout falls in line with the December timeframe spotted in the roadmap today and the South Korean company’s promise to serve the update for the S20 lineup before the end of the year. Since the rollout has just begun, it could be a while till all devices on the carrier begin receiving the update. The initiation of the rollout for carrier-locked devices could also point towards a possible release to unlocked devices sooner than later.
One UI 3 brings a bunch of new features along with the enhancements built into Android 11. There is a streamlined settings menu with improved grouping and updated iconography. The notifications shade has received a refresh that offers a new design and improvements to media controls and notifications. The always-on display function has gained more customization options too. Additionally, there are improvements to the animations, updates to Bixby Routines, additions to the built-in apps like Phone, and much more.
Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra users on Verizon can head to Settings > System updates > Download and install to check if the update is being offered to them. The wait for other devices too should not be a long one.
