Two BlackBerry execs have revealed that the company plans to roll out Android Marshmallow for its Priv smartphone sometime next year.
The BlackBerry Priv has gained a lot of attention in the last few months for being the company's first Android smartphone. Since, it is powered by Android most potential buyers will be wondering whether it will get the latest version of the OS and when. Now, there is an answer, albeit still very vague.
While talking to Android Central, BlackBerry's President of Devices, Ron Louks and Gareth Hurn, Global Director of Device Portfolio Planning have both said that the device will be updated to Android's latest version in 2016.
The company already has the right plans to make the device successful as it is betting its smartphone future on the Priv. If it doesn't manage to deliver major Android updates on time there is a risk of losing a lot of users since flagship smartphones are generally expected to be well supported.
