Google today released Android Things Developer Preview 4, an OS that's made for the Internet of Things. The headlining feature for this build is the Google Assistant SDK, which is made possible with support for the Raspberry Pi-based Voice Kit.
There's also new hardware support for the NXP i.MX7D, "which supports higher performance than the i.MX6UL while still using a low power System on Module (SoM) design." There is also support for new drivers, and the Inter-IC Sound Bus has been added to the Peripheral I/O API, which should allow for users to write audio drivers.
Google is also releasing a hardware sample, the Edison Candle. This is to be the first in a series of production samples, which showcase the company's new OS working together with the hardware.
As you might expect from a Developer Preview build, there are also a number of known issues to be aware of. You can find Google's full release notes here, and they include the notes from previous builds.
