After a slight delay, GamersFirst has now launched the open beta test of APB Reloaded, the new free-to-play version of the 2010 released urban-themed first person shooter MMO. The open beta was originally slated for launch on May 18 but issues related to player disconnect ions delayed the launch of the open beta until today. The game has been in closed beta testing for the last several months.
According to the game's official blog site, the goal of the game's development team is to "... turn our focus to further game and feature polish, as well as inserting some of the new features and functions" during the open beta test period. The final and official launch of APB Reloaded is now "likely to take place sometime in the next few months."
As we have reported previously, APB Reloaded is a new version of the game that was launched back in June 2010 by developer Reatime Worlds after a lengthy development period of several years. Despite lots of pre-release hype, the game failed to gain a wide audience and reviews were mediocre for the game. The lack of revenue caused the shutdown of both the game and the developer only a few months after APB's release. GamersFirst and its parent company K2 Network purchased the rights and assets to APB at the end of 2010 with plans to relaunch the game as a free-to-play shooter in 2011. A few days ago GamersFirst announced that David Jones, the founder of Realtime Worlds, has joined the APB Reloaded team as an advisor.
