Apple has added a series of short movies to the films it sells through the US iTunes Music Store. The movies are being made available as first fruit of a new deal with independent short film distributor Shorts.
A range of titles are available, but perhaps the best-known is the movie The Death of Salvador Dalli, which is being released at the same time as the movie soundtrack. The link to the US iTunes page describing the movie is here. The film brings the flamboyant artist into the life of an unsuspecting Sigmund Freud. Dali wants Freud to help him inject madness into his art, but the tables are turned and the student becomes teacher.
Dita Von Teese plays Dali's whip-wielding wife Gala. The actress' husband Marilyn Manson was instrumental in convincing Dita to play the role. The movie took the Best Female Performance award at the Beverly Hills film festival and Best Cinematography award at the Aarhus film festival in Denmark.
Other available short movies feature John Cleese, Jon Stewart, Gretchen Mol and the Academy Award nominees of 2005. This first clutch of short films cost $1.99 each.
Meanwhile in the UK, this week's free Single of the week is the title track from the critically acclaimed new Freelance Hellraiser album, Waiting For Clearance. The song features guest vocals from Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody.
