Today, Apple began sending out invitations to select journalists for an event that it will be holding on December 2 in New York City at 4pm Eastern Time, later in the day than its usual 1pm. The company says that it will be "honoring our favorite apps and games of 2019".
Based on the invitations, it doesn't seem like the Cupertino firm is set to unveil any new hardware. More likely, it's going to boast its robust App Store platform, and highlight some of the games that have been introduced for its Arcade subscription plan. After all, mobile gaming has been in the news a lot lately with Google Stadia's imminent launch and more games being added to Microsoft's Project xCloud.
While it used to be unthinkable for Apple, a hardware company, to have an event without new hardware, the company did just that earlier this year. At an event in March, the firm introduced Apple Card, Apple News+, Apple Arcade, and Apple TV+.
The text on the invitation also doesn't imply that Apple will be announcing new apps or services. It would seem that this is to be nothing more than a showcase event for existing third-party apps and games on Apple's platforms.
