Along with its credit card and Apple News+ subscription service, Apple has also introduced today its new game subscription service, Apple Arcade. The premium game subscription will bundle paid games from various independent developers and major studios.
Apple Arcade will offer more than 100 exclusive games including original titles from Hironobu Sakaguchi, Ken Wong, and Will Wright, among other popular creators. Game studios that will be participating in the service include Annapurna Interactive, Bossa Studios, Cartoon Network, Finji, Giant Squid, Klei Entertainment, Konami, LEGO, Mistwalker Corporation, SEGA, Snowman, and ustwo games.
The service will also provide access to full game features, content, and future updates at no additional cost. Additionally, all games can be played offline and most of the titles can work with game controllers.
Phil Schiller, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, said:
“We are working with some of the most innovative game developers in the world to create over 100 new and exclusive games to play across iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV. Apple Arcade games will be great for families, respect user privacy and will not have ads or require any additional purchases."
Apple says it will roll out Arcade in the fall of 2019 across more than 150 countries, though pricing is yet to be revealed. The service will be available via a dedicated tab in the App Store across iOS, macOS, and tvOS devices. Customers will also sync their games across those platforms so that they can resume from the last game they played on any Apple device.
