Apple’s Watch may not be as impressive as some had hoped, but that hasn’t stopped the device from becoming the world’s best-selling wearable.
According to research firm Canalys, Apple has recently become the world’s leading vendor of wearable bands, this second of 2015. The company, by these estimates, sold 4.3 million Watches, a downturn compared to Q1’s 7.2 million, but still enough to beat out Fitbit, Xiaomi and others.
Canalys praises the Apple Watch for its SDK and ability to sell well despite its higher than average pricing, but the analysts also warn that Apple may have a tough time ahead. In essence this report is saying Apple has managed to outsell everyone else thanks to its devoted fans, but regular consumers don’t find the Watch that appealing yet.
The Watch is also pegged to continue to sell well, above its competitors, especially in the holiday season, later in the year. That being said, a version two of the Watch with better battery life, performance, and an actual useful use could help Apple’s sales in a much more significant way. But until then, Apple can go ahead and enjoy this victory.
