After originally promising to release iOS 13.1 and iPadOS 13.1 on September 30, Apple bumped up the release date by almost a week amid complaints about stability issues in iOS 13. And now, the updates are available.
iPadOS 13.1 is the more significant update, being that iPadOS 13 was never released to the public. That means that today, your iPad will get all of the benefits of iOS 13, such as dark theme, Maps improvements, a new Reminders app, the Photos app redesign, Memoji stickers, and more.
But that's not all, because there are a whole bunch of features that are exclusive to iPadOS. The home screen is redesigned, allowing you to fit more icons on the screen, and you can even add your widgets. Slide Over is improved as well, with its own task manager. You can also have multiple instances of the same app now in Split View.
iOS 13.1 includes some improvements that didn't make it into the iOS 13 release, such as the Share ETA button in Maps, audio sharing, and more. Apple's new lyrics feature is available in Music now, where lines will be highlighted as the song plays, and you can even tap on a line from the song to skip to that part.
You can update your device the same way that you always would, by going to Settings -> General -> Software Update. This would also be the time to uninstall your beta profile if you were already testing out the updates. Apple released the iOS 13.1 betas earlier than usual this year, so you might have been stuck on the beta cycle for a while.
