Apple fans who want to purchase a new accessory or even perhaps a new iPhone or iPad may not want to wait for Apple to send it to their doorstep. Today, Apple's new 2.0 version of its Apple Store app makes buying new products a little easier if you live in the US and are near an Apple retail store.
The new version of the Apple Store app, now available for download for iOS devices, lets US users purchase an item and if it is available in a local Apple retail store they can drive over and pick it up. Apple claims that most items purchased via the app will be available to be picked up within an hour at the store that you designate.
But perhaps there isn't a nearby Apple retail location. The new Apple store app has some new features for in-home delivery as well. The 2.0 version allows users to view the status of a purchase in terms of its shipment progress from its origin to your location.
But what if an iPhone owner is already at an Apple retail location, just browsing around? Perhaps there is an iPhone case or iPad speaker that they might want to buy. The Apple Store app now has a new option called EasyPay. iPhone owners can simple scan the barcode of the product they want in the Apple retail store with the iPhone's camera. The app then allows the consumer to purchase that item from their iPhone.
After that's done the Apple fan can simply walk out of the store with their purchase without having to deal, in theory at least, with any Apple employee. Again this new feature is just for US residents and is limited to the iPhone 4 and 4S models (sorry, iPhone 3GS owners).
