Apple to use cheaper components in new iMacs

TAIWANESE WIRE Digitimes is reporting today that Apple will introduce mag-alloy cases for desktop iMacs in the first quarter of 2004. And, claims the wire, it will also throw a huge amount of plastic parts into the iMac refresh to save costs.

Apple, it claims, has changed the design of the desktops to cut prices and improve sales. It reports that Apple will introduce the mag alloy case with a 20-inch LCD screen in January/February. Quanta, a major Taiwanese original design manufacturer (ODM), will produce the cheapo machines, it claims.
