After it was originally reported that an Apple TV app was in the works for Microsoft's Xbox consoles, the Redmond company officially announced today that Apple's streaming will be available on Xbox starting November 10. The launch day coincides with the release of the next-generation systems by Microsoft, the Xbox Series X|S, but the Apple TV app will also be available on the Xbox One.
The Apple TV app grants users access to the Apple TV+ streaming service that launched last year, with shows like See, Servant, and more. It also includes Apple TV channels like Showtime and AMC+, plus you can buy or rent individual movies and shows.
In addition to the newly-launched app, the Xbox Series X|S will also support all the existing streaming apps that are already available on Xbox One, the same way it will work with all existing Xbox One games. These include Disney+, Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, and so on, which will work from day one. Additionally, some of these services support technologies like Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos sound, which promise to make media more immersive on the new consoles, provided you have a compatible TV.
Microsoft's announcement follows that of Sony a couple of weeks ago, where the company revealed that Disney+ and Apple TV would be available on the PlayStation 5 at launch. However, Sony's console misses out on some big names at launch, such as Amazon Prime Video and Hulu, which Xbox consoles already support.
