Apple has now made its fourth generation Apple TV available for pre-order, prices start at $149 for the 32GB model and $199 for the 64GB model. Apple's product page suggests that the device will have gone out to customers by the end of the week.
The new Apple TV was announced last month, it was the first time the device had received a refresh since January 2013. Apple are launching the new device with an App Store in an attempt to make it more appealing. A dedicated Software Development Kit (SDK) was released allowing third-party developers to create apps and games which would run directly on the TV.
Other notable enhancements to the platform are the inclusion of Apple's voice assistant, Siri and a redesigned Apple TV remote which now includes a Glass Touch surface and a dedicated button to invoke the aforementioned Siri. A single charge will power the Apple TV remote for a up to three months.
The new Apple TV is powered by a 64-bit A8 processor and has support for Bluetooth 4.0, HDML, Ethernet, Wi-Fi and includes an IR receiver. The Apple TV remote connects to the Apple TV via Bluetooth 4.0 and contains an accelerometer and gyroscope, so it can be used as a controller for games.
