Since its release, Apple's iPhone has received a lot of praise and a lot of criticism; regardless of which way you look at it, it has grown faster than a large amount of competitors. AdMob now states that the iPhone accounts for 50% of mobile traffic across the globe.
As AppleInsider reported, the AdMob data (.PDF link) shows that Google's Android is the only other platform to have grown in usage over the last month. Windows Mobile, Symbian, the BlackBerry have all dropped in usage, with Android and the iPhone taking the losses. For the month of October, the Symbian platform accounted for 25% of all mobile traffic, with Android following at 11%, then BlackBerry on 7% and Windows Mobile at 3%.
Now that there are many more Android phones coming out on the market, such as the Droid, it's expected that the market share for the OS (and thus mobile traffic, generally) will increase accordingly. It'll be interesting to see how the coming months progress with wider OS adoption of new platforms and new devices released, especially if whether or not Apple can keep up the lead in that regard. Also, keep in mind that the 50% traffic use may not be entirely accurate, as it's just from AdMob alone.
