April update for Power BI On-premises data gateway is out now

Last month's update for Power BI On-premises data gateway brought the service in-line with changes to Power BI as a whole. Moreover, users utilizing older versions of the data gateway were informed that only the latest six releases for the gateway would be receiving support moving ahead.

Now, the April update for On-premises data gateway has been released. With this release, the pathway between on-premise data to Power BI has been updated to version 3000.37.23.

As always, an improved version of the Mashup Engine is also included with the latest version. Although this matches the Power BI Desktop release for April, it should be noted that this month's version of Desktop has not been detailed yet by the Power BI team. Usually, this notification arrives much earlier in the month, and Microsoft has not revealed any reasons as to why it hasn't been unveiled yet.

Interestingly, starting with the latest release, the firm has opted to go with two different installers corresponding to different modes for the data gateway. Namely, these are available in the form of the standard mode installer and a personal mode installer. In the past, a combined installer has been used, though that will be retired for all products that integrate with data gateways by mid-May.

In other Power BI news, workspaces were refreshed with a new look last week, while a new capability allowing visuals to be copied as images was introduced to the service as well.
