UK High Street retailer Argos looks set to dump Nintendo's gamecube console following weak sales of Nintendo's next-gen console. The move follows the move by the dixons group to stop ordering any further stock of the console and to slash the price by over £50 under Nintendo's suggested Retail Price (SRP) for the console.
Argos claims that no decision has been made regarding the console future and the current price slash is merely to stimulate the market following weak sales of the product concerned.
"Sales have been slow so we wanted to speed these up by selling it at a good price," according to Argos marketing director Paul Geddes. "In terms of what happens after that, we haven't yet taken a decision on the format."
Regardless of the retoric though, one this is clear, Nintendo is in deep dogs doo doo on the UK high street and seriously threatens the consoles over all position in the UK gaming market which is one of the largest in Europe and indeed the world.
