Atari's upcoming "retro-inspired" gaming console, the Atari VCS, will finally be available for pre-order on May 30, exclusively via an Indiegogo campaign. Formerly known as Ataribox, the console was originally set to be available for pre-order back in December, but those plans were called off by the company, saying "one key element" was not completed in time.
Once the campaign goes live, there will be at least two editions of the Atari VCS available for pre-order with prices starting at $199 for a limited time. One of them will be a collector's edition with a "special retro-inspired wood-front," while another will be the standard black Onyx version.
Also, It could be that the controllers and other accessories will be sold separately, as the press release mentions "other packages" that come with the "Classic Joystick and Modern Controller" included.
While how much power does it have under the hood is still a mystery, the Atari VCS will be AMD powered and will support 4K resolution, 60FPS, HDR, and will come with come with internal and external expandable storage options, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, along with USB 3.0. Exact specifications of the device are to be revealed once the pre-orders kick off.
While the Indiegogo campaign's opening is only a month away, those who pre-order will be in for a long wait before they get their hands on one of the consoles, as shipping is slated to begin in Spring 2019.
