Today marks new additions to Microsoft's Games with Gold program, giving two new games to Xbox Live Gold members for free. Just as the company announced last month, the games on offer are Nightschool Studio's 2.5D supernatural adventure game, Oxenfree for Xbox One, and DICE's combined arms shooter, Battlefield 3 for Xbox 360. Thanks to backward compatibility, the latter is also accessible on Xbox One consoles.
The two games can be claimed right now via their store links listed below:
Oxenfree (Xbox One, September 16 - October 15)
Oxenfree is a supernatural thriller about a group of friends who unwittingly open a ghostly rift. Play as Alex, a bright, rebellious teenager who brings her new stepbrother Jonas to an overnight party on an old military island. The night takes a terrifying turn when you unwittingly open a ghostly gate spawned from the island’s cryptic past. How you deal with these events, your peers, and the ominous creatures you’ve unleashed is up to you. YOU determine every aspect of Alex's story while exploring Edwards Island, uncovering the base's dark past, and changing the course of your friends' lives.
Battlefield 3 (Xbox 360, September 16 - 30)
Battlefield 3 leaps ahead of the competition with the power of Frostbite™ 2, the next installment of DICE's cutting-edge game engine. This state-of-the-art technology is the foundation on which Battlefield 3 is built, delivering superior visual quality, a grand sense of scale, massive destruction, dynamic audio and incredibly lifelike character animations. As bullets whiz by, walls crumble, and explosions throw you to the ground, the battlefield feels more alive and interactive than ever before. In Battlefield 3, players step into the role of the elite U.S. Marines where they will experience heart-pounding single player missions and competitive multiplayer actions ranging across diverse locations from around the globe including Paris, Tehran and New York.
It does, however, seem like Microsoft is having some trouble making the games free this week; as of publishing, Battlefield 3 has seemingly disappeared from its store page.
Any Xbox One owners who missed out on the Forza Motorsport 5: Racing Game of the Year Edition from the last Games with Gold promotion can still grab it until September 30. Note that only claimed Xbox 360 games will continue to be playable if the Gold subscription is canceled, unlike claimed Xbox One games, which are only accessible with an ongoing subscription.
In addition to the free games, Microsoft's Deals with Gold promotion has discounted GTA V, Dark Souls II and III, Tekken 7, XCOM 2 as well as a host of other games this week. The entire list of Xbox One and Xbox 360 deals can be seen here.
