Bing ties up with Local.com for location-based product data

Microsoft and Local Corporation entered into an agreement on Sept. 5th to power Bing local product search using Local's technology.

Local Corporation is a leading online local media company and Local.com is its search offering. As per the agreement, Bing's local product search will be powered by Local's Krillion shopping data platform. It provides real-time data such as retail locations, brands, categories, product availability and discounts from brick and mortar stores.

According to a study conducted by the company, customers prefer researching about products online before purchasing and there are still plenty of customers who prefer to visit stores before finalizing. Such a location-based service can be beneficial to them and also increase Bing's usage.

Heath Clarke, Chairman and CEO of Local Corp, said:

"We're pleased to be partnering with Bing to provide relevant local product shopping information to millions of consumers. Our dynamic local product data enhances the online shopping experience for consumers by providing them with valuable information about which retailers carry the products they are looking for."

Financial details of the agreement have not been disclosed.
