While lots of PC owners were updating their rigs to Windows 8.1 on Thursday, Microsoft didn't forget about Windows Phone 8 users. On Thursday, the company issued big updates for two of its previously released apps for the mobile OS; Bing Sports and Bing Weather.
The official Windows Phone blog has the info on what's been added to each of the Bing apps. In the case of Bing Sports, the new version now adds coverage of over 30 more sports which includes NASCAR, LPGA, Champions League Soccer, tennis and rugby. The app now has the leading teams and players when a sports fan views a particular league or team page. Finally, the app also has options so that a sports fan can keep track of the news from his or her favorite player or sport.
Since the weekend is upon us, it's good that Microsoft updated the Bing Weather app for Windows Phone 8 users right about now. Some of the new features include support for viewing weather updates from the lock screen and a revamped Live tile that shows what the current conditions are, along with wind speed and if there is any precipitation in a local area. The other side of the Live title shows a five day forecast for the same location.
The new version also include some additional weather data like the UV index and what the weather history of a region was like. Finally, as we are approaching ski season (heck, it's snowing today in Denver) so Bing Weather now includes what the snow and weather conditions are like at a number of ski resorts.
