Virtually every Call of Duty game that has released has been a major event. In fact, the series is one of the most popular First Person Shooter games ever. However, it appears that Activision believes that they can top that. According to N4G, Activision will push Call of Duty like never before.
IGN stated “The launch for Call of Duty: Black Ops is going to be huge. Really huge.” During their second quarter fiscal earnings call, Activision emphasized that the marketing budget for Black Ops will be far larger than last year’s marketing budget. The preorders for this entry in the Call of Duty franchise have already outpaced Modern Warfare 2.
According to Activision COO, Thomas Tippl, Black Ops will release on a wider variety of platforms than any other Call of Duty title. He also went on to state that this game will drive Call of Duty to (once again) be the best entertainment event of the year. Activision CEO, Bobby Kotick also participated in the call and stated that Black Ops’ will see a larger financial investment by the company than any other game that they have ever released.
Kotick also explained that this game will not be targeted only at hardcore gamers. It will have a much broader audience. Black Ops won’t see competition just from other shooters, but also from other games that appeal to a wider audience. Call of Duty Black Ops is expected to launch on November 9th in North America and it will retail for $59.99 (US) for the Standard Edition.
