Call of Duty games earning record-breaking amounts of money isn't something to be surprised of, and just as expected, this year's entry has proven to be mega-successful and record-breaking also. Activision revealed today that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare brought in $600 million in just three days, a cool $100 million more than last year's multiplayer-only entry Black Ops 4.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is already the top-selling premium game in 2019, easily becoming the most successful Call of Duty launch of this generation. It has also become the best-selling digital game opening in Activision's history, even setting records in PlayStation Network for having the most digital pre-orders, and sales, within three days.
Moreover, Modern Warfare is the second game in a row to skip a Steam release on PC and be available exclusively on Blizzard's Battle.net client. Activision said this entry is its biggest Call of Duty launch ever on the PC platform, with opening weekend sales being "significantly up over last year." This is considerable as Black Ops 4's PC release was already deemed a major success on the platform.
Activision even compared its opening weekend numbers to the box office opening of the recent hit Joker, touting Modern Warfare managed to more than double the movie's earnings.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is now available to purchase on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, arriving as a reboot to the old line of games bearing the same name.
