Details of Microsoft's plans to bring Cortana to support to the lock screen on Android devices first emerged in January. Now, that support has officially arrived, along with wider availability for the digital assistant in Australia.
In fact, Microsoft said that it had "introduced the ability to get Cortana on your lock screen earlier this month". But from today, it added, "you can now interact with Cortana above the lock. Quickly get answers to your questions, set a reminder and more without having to unlock your device."
Cortana's home screen in the Android app has also received some updates, "giving you glanceable information about what’s upcoming in your day like your schedule, commute times as well as upcoming reminders and the ability to quickly add reminders and new calendar items to your day." Microsoft said that it's also made improvements to lists, making it easier to view, edit and add items quickly.
Along with those enhancements, the company announced the launch of its Cortana apps for Android and iOS in Australia today. Support for the assistant was already available there on Windows 10 devices.
