Back in 2020, developer CD Projekt RED said Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt would receive free PlayStation 5 (PS5) and Xbox Series X|S upgrades. While the tentative timeline was in 2021, the patches have been pushed back to 2022.
Today, the developer's parent company issued the following press release. Cyberpunk 2077 — the first-person open-world adventure game — should receive upgrades in the first quarter of 2022. Gamers will have to wait a little longer for The Witcher 3 — the third-person open-world RPG experience — because that's expected in the second quarter of 2022.
CD Projekt S.A. wishes to provide an update regarding its publication schedule for 2021 as concerns the release of dedicated versions of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for next-gen consoles ... Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 ... The Management Board ... hereby announces that, based on recommendations supplied by persons supervising development, it has decided to allocate additional time to both projects ... currently intends to release the next-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077 in the first quarter of 2022, and the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in the second quarter of 2022.
If you currently have an Xbox Series X|S, you can still play the games by installing them on an external drive, ideally an external solid-state drive to minimize loading. When the patch rolls out next year, you'll have to transfer those files to your internal storage of expansion card.
Will you replay Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 when these upgrades are available? Let us know in the comments below.
