A year ago, during its 2021 earnings report, CD Projekt announced the sales figures of its most popular games, with The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 reaching 30 million and almost 14 million copies sold, respectively. Today, in its 2022 report, the company had new numbers to share, and there have been some major gains.
Even following a shaky launch, Cyberpunk 2022's digital and physical sales figures now stand at over 18 million. Amidst continuous game updates by CD Projekt RED, both in the form of bug fixes and the recent release of the major 'next-gen' upgrade, the RPG is set to receive story expansions in the future.
The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, meanwhile, continues to be a massive earner for CD Projekt, with the game now standing at over 40 million copies sold since launch on both physical and digital fronts. The Witcher franchise overall has shifted over 65 million copies. This number should include the complete trilogy as well as spin-off titles.
Considering the success, the announcement of a new saga in The Witcher games universe a few weeks ago didn't come as a big surprise. This project is dumping the studio's in-house built REDengine and going with Unreal Engine 5 as part of a technology partnership with Epic Games.
Aside from several unannounced projects, CD Projekt RED is now also internally developing the enhanced edition of The Witcher 3. It recently took over the duties from Saber Interactive due to an unknown reason.
