It's been a busy day for Microsoft, with it unveiling Halo: The Master Chief Collection for PC, Minecraft for Xbox Game Pass, and more during the Inside Xbox stream today. Adding to that, on the same show, Bohemia Interactive revealed that DayZ will finally be coming out of the Xbox Game Preview program and launching in full on the Xbox One family of consoles on March 27.
Unlike the PC version of the multiplayer sandbox survival game, where it remained in Steam Early Access for five years before launching, it seems the Xbox One version's stay on the Preview program will be much shorter. Save for any delays, the Bohemia Interactive-developed title will shed its Game Preview tag after only having it for about seven months.
See the brand new cinematic trailer made just for the occasion above and the game's setting described by the developer down below:
The post-soviet country of Chernarus is struck by an unknown virus, turning the majority population into frenzied infected. Fighting over resources has bred a hostile mentality among survivors, driving what’s left of humanity to collapse. You are one of the few immune to the virus - how far will you go to survive?
However, just because the game will be released doesn't mean Bohemia Interactive will halt further development. The studio confirmed that a full year of updates are planned for the Xbox One version, bringing content such as new weapons and vehicles, as well as new features.
The Xbox One version of DayZ is available for purchase on the Microsoft Store for $39.99. This price may go up once the game launches in full, however, similar to what occurred on the Steam version.
